How to reach Katra


The pilgrimage town of Katra in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir is a popular tourist destination. The holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi being located here, Katra witnesses year round tourist movement. Situated around 42 km away from Jammu on the foothills of Trikuta Mountains, Katra can be reached by road, rail and air conveniently from Jammu.

A good number of trains from places like Kolkata, Pathankot, Amritsar, Delhi and Chandigarh run to Jammu Tawi Railway Station, an oldest and important railway station of the state. Good news is that Indian Railways recently introduced Katra's own railway station which lies on the Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link. Direct trains from Delhi are available for Katra Railway Station.

Katra is connected by state and national highways. It can be directly reached via buses from Jammu which run at frequent intervals. Direct buses to Katra are available from Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Patiala, Amritsar, Dharamshala, Pathankot and many other cities of north India. All these buses offer affordable and comfortable journey.

As Katra does not have an airport of its own, Jammu Airport serves as the nearest airport. Also called Satwari Airport, it connects Jammu to prominent Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Amritsar and Chennai via regular service of direct and stopover domestic flights. Passengers can hire a taxi from outside the airport to travel a distance of around 40 km to Katra.
