Thajiwas Glacier

Sonamarg which means meadow of gold has its own charm. Snow masked Thajiwas glacier is one of the most enchanting tourist place of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located 3km from the town. It is at an altitude of 9,186 feet. It is a lovely vantage point to observe snow and the picturesque Kashmir Valley.

It is can be visited by foot and by hiring ponies. One can find snow even in the summer season. The way to the glacier offers many adventurous routes full of amazing waterfalls and green water. At night time, the moonlight view of the glaciers will take your breath away.

Zoji-La Pass

What runs through the Kashmir valley and Ladakh bringing them and their own corners closer, is a high mountain pass, Zoji-La Pass at an altitude of 3528 m above the sea level.Given the altitude, and the places it travels to, the pass is known for its extraordinarily beautiful views and landscapes. Certain parts of the pass, especially, can be a bit of a dangerous ride, hence one must travel down this one, only with a seasoned driver, used to such steep and playful turns and roads. Also the pass gets closed occasionally during the winter months.

Vishansar Lake

A little outside Sonamarg, is a sparkling blue lake surrounded by lush green meadow, alpine flowers and white and silver mountains at a tantalizing distance. At an altitude of 3710 m, this one secure a width of about 0.6 km and is also a habitat to a number of species of fish.

Krishnasar Lake

Located at a height of 3801 m above sea level, Krishnasar Lake is one of the most mesmerizing lakes in Sonamarg. Surrounded by dense alpines, the place offers cool and pleasant atmosphere. The lake is popular for trout fishing while people also enjoy other water activities here.

Nilagrad River

With disease curing and healing powers, the Nilagrad river is highly revered. A lot of locals come here every Sunday to take a dip into its waters. The scenic beauty all around it engulfs one too.

Gangabal Trek

Considered a highly sacred place by the Hindus, known as Harmuk Ganga at a height of 3570 m above sea level is Gangabal trek. The lake is known a large population of fish, the rainbow trout fish being the star of the lake.

The lake can be reached from Sonamarg via Krishnasar and Vishansar, after an enjoyable trek through some enchanting scenery. The trekking season is from July to October while the fishing season extends from March to October.

Baltal Valley

Baltal is known for its scenic views. The tents available here are affordable and tourists need to either trek or hire ponies to reach the cave. Tourists can also take helicopter services from Baltal that will drop the yatris till Panjtarni which is 5 km from the cave in just 7 minutes.

The journey further to the cave needs to be covered on foot or ponies.

White River Rafting

Sonamarg promises to quench your thirst for an adventure filled, adrenaline gushing vacation. One can even go for a long rafting expedition starting from Baltal and ending at Shutkari Bridge at Sonamarg.
